Scientists have developed a new type of CAR T cell therapy that could be more effective in treating multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.
This new therapy uses fifth-generation CAR T cells that target a protein called BCMA found on myeloma cells.
The researchers found that their fifth-generation anti-BCMA CAR T cells were better at killing myeloma cells and had a higher proliferative capacity than previous generations of CAR T cells.
The fifth-generation CAR T cells were also better at overcoming a mechanism used by cancer cells to evade the immune system.
This new therapy could lead to better outcomes for patients with multiple myeloma.
